It’s Time for the DSM to Change (Again)

Many years ago I, along with others, undertook The DSM Project to provide sound and factual input to the body of professionals that write and revise the American Psychiatric Association’s (APA) Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (often referred to in psychotherapeutic circles as simply the DSM). Our mission was to counteract the classifying of most nontraditional sexualities as mental disorders. We were quite successful.

The National Coalition for Sexual Freedom (NCSF) is now undertaking the DSM Revision Project to move the DSM even closer to reality by removing these harmful diagnoses from the DSM entirely.

I fully support NCSF’s DSM Revision Project and encourage you to do the same.

You can support NCSF’s DSM Revision Project by signing the petition at www.ncsfreedom.org that will be sent to the APA urging them to adhere to scientific research when revising the diagnoses in the DSM. To find out more about this project, read the NCSF & The Foundation for NCSF’s White Paper on the DSM Revision that you can also find posted on www.ncsfreedom.org.

NCSF is a great organization and can always use financial contributions. I urge everyone to join NCSF as a way to support their important advocacy work.
