Patrick Mulcahey’s Important Leather Reign Speech
At the recent Leather Reign 2012 event in Seattle a close friend of mine, Patrick Mulcahey, delivered the keynote address titled Learning About Learning. Leland Carina just posted the entire speech on Leatherati.
I consider the speech one of the most important I’ve heard at any leather/kink event in quite a while. In part, he’s essentially pointing out that the emperor has no clothes when it comes to many of the ways we’re attempting to “educate” the kinky among us, newcomer and seasoned player alike. I applaud the brave stance Patrick takes in this speech and agree with him 100%. I’ve mentioned for some time that the way we undertake education in the leather/BDSM/kink scene has gone awry in far too many cases and a rethink is definitely overdue.
Please read the speech and add your thoughts as comments to this post. This is a discussion us kinksters must have if our educational efforts are to remain relevant and effective.
Sidenote: Leatherati can use your help in staying alive. Please read their appeal for assistance and contribute if you can.

March 15, 2013 at 6:24 pmFantastic cross-post, thank you so much Race. And THANK YOU Patrick for this thoughtful and important article. It is hilarious that I am one of those pro-sex-educator types who does make a living teaching folks about sex… but I think that the main thing I end up teaching folks is about being authentic and being connected. The rest is a bonus.
